Today, the right of the Church to participate in the public arena has been called into question and in many places its role has been marginalised. Too often the Church has responded by abandoning the City centre instead of seeking to influence the influencers by working at its heart.
To deliver our vision at May Street we are committed to maintaining and developing our role at the centre of the social and commercial fabric of City life, building on our strong relationships with Government, Commerce, Traders and Inner City Communities.
By so occupying a prominent role within the City, and by delivering real programs that enhance the City, we speak for all the Church and take our rightful place at the table along with those who will influence not just the City but ultimately our Nation.
By doing this, we believe we are seeing the fulfilment of the High Priestly Prayer of Jesus, 'My prayer is not that you take them out of the world...They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.' We are to be in the world, but not of the world, speaking the values of God's kingdom into the community in which we are embedded.
